His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan once said “On land and in the sea, our fore-fathers lived and survived in this environment. They were able to do so because they recognised the need to conserve it, to take from it only what they needed to live, and to preserve it for succeeding generations.” This is the foundation of the United Arab Emirates commitment to a sustainable future for all future generations to come.

 

I feel that sustainability today is more important than ever.  As we move beyond the impact of the novel Coronavirus, we have been presented with a unique opportunity to entirely reimagine the way we live, work, engage and innovate.  Some refer to this generation-defining moment as The Great Reset. The Great Reset reminds us that the society we are building must be people-positive and nature-positive.

I believe that the UAE has the potential to position itself as a leader in sustainability.  Through energy efficiency, diversification and renewable innovations, as well as preservation, conservation and circularity, we, as a nation can deliver the commitments of our forefathers. This transformative post-covid recovery strategy, will drive the country’s ambitions to garner new GDP, achieve a circular economy, and drive sustainable development.

This can only be realized through partnerships, collaboration and integrative innovations.  We will be able to not only deliver on our commitments here in the UAE, but drive transformative sustainable change globally.
